Nayyar, 30, met the former Miss India, 28, in New Delhi three years ago. “She unlocked something in me that I had never felt before,” the actor tells PEOPLE. 

The weeklong festivities, which Nayyar called “quite hectic,” included an exchange of vows, a garland ritual and henna tattoos. 

When Nayyar and Kapur first saw each other at the ceremony, they adorned each other with handmade garlands. 

At the actual wedding ceremony, Nayyar held a cup with a white lotus flower. “I dipped the flower in purified water and then threw it into the fire,” he says. 

And during the Mehndi portion of the wedding, thrown by Kapur’s family, “All of the women get henna and all the men drink Bloody Marys,” says Nayyar. “The men feed the women, because they have to wait for the henna to dry.” 

The newlyweds later enjoyed unwinding after “six days of partying.”

Jim said that he joined the social networking platform since it’s the most impressive news aggregation on the market and not so he could learn the minutiae of everyone’s life. “That’s the problem I have with Twitter. If I like my ham sandwich, that’s my business,” he laughed.

He also added that while he’s not an active Tweeter, he has sent a couple of messages to prominent figures. “I Tweeted to two sports figures, Houston Texans, who put up a hell of an effort in a losing battle but I didn’t want them to feel discouraged and leave the sport. It’s not important that [they know] it’s from me, I just want them to know somebody cares.”

Tickets are now on sale for the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Harvey, starring Jim Parsons. Previews begin on May 18, 2012 at Studio 54, with an official opening set for June 14. The limited engagement will run through August 5.

You practice attachment parenting, and even wrote a book (to be released by Simon & Schuster in March 2012) called “Beyond the Sling.” Can you talk a bit about your parenting style and the book?

Our parenting style relies heavily on intuitive knowledge that all mammals are born with: stay close to your baby as much as possible, sleep near them, breastfeed them as if there is no other option, carry them close to your body, and don’t force them to sleep when you want them to sleep or eat when you want them to eat. We believe in honoring the human body and its ability to birth naturally and produce milk, and we believe in not viewing a baby as a manipulator or a clingy dependent being that needs to be made independent as soon as possible. Healthy dependence leads to healthy independence in time. The book includes introductions to human hormones of attachment, birth, breastfeeding, and early bonding, but it basically opens up our home to readers by showing what these principles look like in action. I don’t sugarcoat anything; it’s exhausting to be any kind of parent, and I don’t presume to know how you should parent; I simply share what works for us and how you can implement even parts of an intuitive style to make your life easier and your kids hopefully confident and secure and loved.

People always seem shocked that your two young children don’t watch television, but the studies appear to be on your side. What kinds of activities do your kids do instead of watching TV and movies?

This is a funny question but a great one! The times that I could most likely see plopping them down in front of a television become times when they play with toys that have longevity: lots of LEGO, trucks and cars, and a fantastic wooden kitchen, washing machine, and fridge, complete with wooden fruits and vegetables and a set of small-sized dishes and silverware. We read books together, and they help us cook sometimes. We like to put on records from my youth and they dance in the living room (sometimes I join in!) or they lead each other (and me and my husband if hard-pressed) in “marches” around the house to music with their collection of instruments. Once you know TV is not an option, you simply find other stuff they play with. And as I said, toys that take a while to play with are best!

You lead a minimalist lifestyle, which I’m sure helps you and your family to leave a small footprint on the planet. What are some of the ways your minimalist philosophies help the environment during day to day life?

Well, eliminating paper towels is something that I never thought I would do but I did it! A few packs of simple cloth washcloths (and cloth diapers that have been sterilized) do all of our cleaning up. It’s a significant reduction in waste. We are vegan, which may not make a huge impact from just us, but the fact that so much of our world’s resources go to housing and feeding animals makes us happy to not be a part of that even in a small way. Elimination Communication (a method of learning a baby’s potty cues, thus reducing the need for diapers!) was a fantastic illustration for me of how much money and landfill space you save by not relying on disposable or cloth diapers! And teaching our boys that we don’t buy every single thing they ask for teaches them (and reminds us!) to simply consume less!!

When and why did you go vegan?

I was vegetarian from age 19 until I got pregnant with my first son in 2005. He was allergic to dairy in my breastmilk so I cut it out. After Fred was born, I read “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer and it convinced me that it was worth it to go ‘all the way,’ and so I eliminated eggs and all trace dairy (like in baked goods and my beloved candy bars I indulged in from time to time). My love for animals since childhood feels complete now that I am vegan, and it feels really right for every reason: health, ethical, environmental…It is an amazing lifestyle and I find it easy and inexpensive. Our boys eat a variety of foods that many kids have never heard of, and they also get sweets and fun foods in their lives, too. We make it work because it matters to us to do it, even if it’s sometimes challenging.

What’s your favorite vegan meal to eat at home with your family?

Well, it’s a Mexican-style casserole that I can hide a lot of vegetables in…It’s from one of navah Atlas’ cookbooks and it’s got cheese (we use Daiya vegan cheese) and beans and it’s layered and cuts nicely and the kids love it. Don’t tell them, but I put a ton of diced kale in the last batch I made and no one even noticed!

Speaking of all things vegan, your character on The Big Bang Theory, Amy Farrah Fowler, is a neurobiologist who is pro-animal testing. How do you, the vegan neuroscientist, feel about animal testing?

I chose to pursue research as an undergraduate and graduate student that did not use animals in any way. It severely limited my choices, but, again, it’s worth it to me. I know that animal research is considered critical to many scientists, and I guess this is one of the reasons I am happy to now be an actor and not a scientist; it’s not an issue I have to confront in my lab.

From child actor to neuroscientist to mother to writer and to actor again. You seem to have a really balanced life and have been able to follow your many passions. Do you ever struggle giving each passion the time it deserves?

Yes. All the time. Every day. My kids need to be the #1 priority. But sometimes I need to be reminded to get off the computer when I am catching up on emails at home…My social life has suffered the most with all that I do, but something had to give and that’s what sort of fell by the wayside. I have very close friends in our homeschool community and I am grateful we see each other while the kids play. But beyond that, I don’t get as much sleep as I’d like, and I don’t have girls nights out, and I don’t really do stuff for me…that’s my “secret!”

I recently read your blog on W Magazine’s disturbing hyper-sexual images of a model shown as an arrested protester. It seems we are being bombarded with more and more images of sexualized violence towards women in media. As an actress, you have played very strong and smart female characters. Have you found it difficult to navigate through the sometimes troubling ways women are portrayed in the entertainment world?

As a feminist who was educated about feminism from my mother, from Ms. Magazine, and from some amazing professors at UCLA, I am consistently astounded at what our society views as acceptable. I struggle with it personally and am confronted with it all the time. I have learned when to speak up and when to not; you have to pick your battles I guess. By choosing to dress modestly, I feel that is my own kind of statement, so that’s something I think about literally every day. The sexualization of girls and teenagers on TV and in movies should astound us. I’m not a fuddy duddy; I have traditional values, yes; but this is not about traditional values; it’s about how much we allow our young girls and women to be objectified and how early we encourage that to happen. Don’t get me started!!!

Whether it’s helping people, animals or the environment, can you give our Ecorazzi readers one of your favorite ways to make the world a better place?

Wow…Great question. Hands-on charity work. For kids, examples are: teaching them in age-appropriate ways about why some families become homeless, or about runaway teens, or about beach clean-up, and then finding ways for them to work towards helping…collecting clothes or toys and donating them IN PERSON to shelters (we took our son at age 4 to donate old baby things to a teen mom shelter and he helped unload the car, etc), or picking up trash at the beach. It does make a difference.

For teens, make them do something. I worked the kitchen at a senior citizen’s center in my Blossom years every Saturday morning. Talk about humbling. It was fantastic. Teenagers should “have to” do something like this I think. It’s part of their education about the world.

For adults, it’s never too late to start making a small difference in the world. Our money can help small charities start up. And we can lead by example and show that writing checks is not the only way adults make a difference: we too can clean up the beach, donate clothes or office supplies to shelters, and volunteer at senior citizen’s centers. Teach that one person can change the world because it’s true.

Helberg, who recently sold a home in Los Angeles, is one of the five central characters in the ensemble comedy ”The Big Bang Theory,” which started in 2007. The 30-year-old starred in “Derek and Simon: The Show” (2007).

Public records show the property was purchased for $2.575 million in 2007, before Mueller and Sheen’s 2008 marriage. After the birth of twin sons in 2009, they listed the house at $3.697 million. Weeks or months may pass before sale prices appear in public records.

“Harvey” became a classic when James Stewart starred in a 1950 movie version of the show. Various film versions have been made since. It was rumored Hollywood was looking to remake it again however it looks like Broadway will get the next version of “Harvey.”

Jim Parsons is an award winning actor best known for his television role in “The Big Bang Theory.” On that show he won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. He also won a Television Critics Award for that show. Parsons has also appeared in film and on off Broadway productions.

The actor could add a successful Broadway run if negotiations go well. Mary Chase won the Pulitzer Award in 1945 for “Harvey” and it has enjoyed runs on Broadway, television and movies. “Harvey” could be mew success on Broadway with the popular Jim Parsons in a starring role.

Galecki, 36, talked to Parade.com about his new role, bonding with co-star Justin Timberlake, and Big Bang Theory‘s upcoming 100th episode milestone.

On his latest film, In Time.
“I just thought it was so intelligent and clever. I went in to some meetings with [director] Andrew Niccol to talk about the character, and I said, ‘Why don’t you let me read it?’ I’m never really opposed to auditioning; in fact, I’m more comfortable with it. I probably shouldn’t say this because I’ll be kicking myself later, but you don’t hire a guy to paint your house by sitting down and having coffee with him, you want to see what kind of work he does.”

On stretching his dramatic acting chops.
“That was definitely a draw to this role. I love playing Leonard, but if you have an opportunity to do something different, you jump at it. I was actually doing the movie at night and the TV show during the day and sleeping in my dressing room at Warner Bros. for a couple hours in between. I want to mix it up creatively.”

On co-star Justin Timberlake.
“He’s a perfectionist. I was really impressed. He has a great instinct, whether he’s on or off camera. I’ve never seen someone who had such success in another area of entertainment be so willing to work as hard as he does. He doesn’t rest on any of those laurels. He knows that performing at Madison Square Garden doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be a great actor in an action film.”

On breaking the ice with JT.
“The first scene we were going to shoot together was the goodbye scene, so I went to set a couple days before just to kind of pal around with Justin a little bit. I didn’t want to shake his hand and then start a very emotional goodbye scene between us. The bar scene was fun too because we ran off to a nearby shooting gallery on our break. He is a far superior shot than I am. I don’t think the producers were necessarily thrilled about that, but you gotta blow off some steam somehow!”

On his early acting ambitions.
“I started talking about it when I was literally three-years-old. It’s almost creepy. I have no idea how I even knew what the word ‘actor’ meant. My parents tried to dissuade me, but there was a local community theater doing auditions for a production of Fiddler on the Roof that we read about it in the paper. I auditioned and got the role. I was just a kid in the chorus, but that was the beginning.”

On his passion for live sitcoms.
“It’s theater, really. That’s how we approach it. Our goal is to make these 22-minute plays every week. If it wasn’t for that live audience, I wouldn’t be half as happy and creatively satisfied as I am. That’s really the pot of the gold at the end of every workweek. I can be in some foul mood, but I hear that audience come in and I think how lucky I am. I get to go out there and try to make a few hundred people laugh. That’ll make anybody’s day!”

On his love for Leonard.
“Initially, I loved playing his frustration with his life. In the last season, I’m really enjoying his growth and his maturing. It’s happening at a snail’s pace, but that’s fun to mine. We’re approaching our 100th episode, and I’m trying to wrap my head around that. It’s just crazy, but I love working. I’m always happiest when I’m working.”

On being a poster boy for brainiacs. 
“It’s funny, I did not foresee that. These characters are so relatable apparently. I can’t tell you how often I hear, ‘My 12-year-old is just like your character,’ or ‘My great grandfather is just like your character.’ It doesn’t have any boundaries in age or geography. It really is very wide-reaching and that’s just a testament to the writers more than the performances.”

On his takeaway from his years on Roseanne.
“Just how much I learned from each of them. I started during their third season, so the cast bonding had already taken place, but it was really priceless to have those examples. Rose and John Goodman — you couldn’t have asked for a better college.”

Kaley Cuoco of the Emmy-nominated uber-geek comedy “The Big Bang Theory” will host the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, the organization announced Thursday.

Which pretty much means Cuoco is landing more hosting gigs than her “Big Bang” alter-ego is landing hemorrhoid commercials.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kaley as the new host of the People’s Choice Awards,” executive producer Mark Burnett said in a statement. “She’s been making people laugh on top-rated comedy series for the last decade…. I’m looking forward to working with her on a fun-filled, comedy-packed show in January.”

Cuoco hosted the Teen Choice Awards last August, where she competed for the spotlight with teens more interested in flailing their arms in front of the cameras than answering her loaded questions about the debt ceiling. But how else is a girl to prove that teens are smarter than we think? She may be better suited for the slightly older crowd drawn in by the People’s Choice Awards.

She plays funny-girl-next-door Penny on the top-rated CBS comedy, which won the 2010 People’s Choice Award for comedy series. The 25-year-old actress also starred in the final season of syndicated supernatural drama “Charmed” and the now-defunct series “8 Simple Rules,” the favorite new TV comedy award winner in 2003.

She’ll next appear in the independent feature film “The Last Ride” with Jesse James and the Lifetime television movie “Untouchable: The Drew Peterson Story” with Rob Lowe.

The 2012 People’s Choice Awards, in which fans determine the nominees and winners in 41 music, movies and television categories, will air Jan. 11 on CBS.

Simon Helberg, one of the five central characters in the ensemble comedy “The Big Bang Theory,” has listed his Los Angeles home at $849,000.

The restored two-story Craftsman, built in 1910, is entered through a deep-set front porch with a swing. Period features include leaded windows, built-in cabinetry and wood floors and trim. The main house contains a fireplace, a den, five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Guest space above the detached garage has a kitchenette and a bathroom. An additional office with a bathroom sits next to the garage.

The comic actor, 30, plays fashion-challenged and self-deluded “ladies man” Howard Wolowitz on the sitcom, which started in 2007. He starred in “Derek and Simon: The Show” (2007).

The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco is engaged! A rep for the actress confirmed the great news toPeople. Kaley is set to wed boyfriend and addiction specialist Josh ‘Lazie’ Resnik.

According to the rep, “The surprise proposal took place during a quiet date night at home. The couple are very excited to begin their wedding planning.”

The couple look like such a great pair and he even resembles Kaley’s past boyfriend and co-star Johnny Galecki. She admitted in 2010 that the two had been dating secretly for two years but the relationship eventually ran its course. At the time she stated, “We were so protective of ourselves and the show and didn’t want anything to ruin that. But that also made it sad, too. That’s not the kind of relationship I want–I don’t want to be hiding.”

Who knows if the two gave it a go again after announcing the split, but its clear Kaley moved on and is ready to settle down with Resnik.

Congrats to the happy couple!

As the theme song to TV’s No. 1 comedy goes, it all started with a big bang. And then in the third season, the writers decided to add a new breed of nerds to the group—this time, bringing in the ladies.  The Big Bang Theory had already rocketed in the ratings when it moved to Thursday nights last fall. Around the same time, the sitcom introduced two brainy new characters, and in just a single season Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) have become regular characters and integral parts of the Big Bangformula.

“It was wonderful adding Melissa and Mayim,” says Jim Parsons, who plays persnickety Ph.D. Sheldon Cooper. “They’re strong actors who fit perfectly into the tone of the show. Their characters have opened up new roads for full stories to be formed around them.”

For one, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) now has “a circle of girls she can hang out with, so it makes it easier for us to have new storylines,” says Big Bang executive producer Steven Molaro. “Our little world has grown in a great way, and we’re thrilled to have so many new options.”

On this season of “The Big Bang Theory,” we had the opportunity more than ever before to see Mayim Bialik get to know all of the cast as her character of scientist Amy. The former “Blossom” star does bring a different sort of energy to the cast — she is the only actor to actually be a scientist in real life, and she actually has some sort innate understanding about some of her material even while reading the scripts for the first time.

However, Mayim is also quick to dish out compliments when it comes to the people who work on this hit CBS show behind the scenes:

“I don’t think I’ve met a smarter group of people who hang out together, possibly ever, even in graduate school, than our writers and producers.”

Mayim has yet to start filming this coming season, and there is one event that she is looking forward to first and that is her first-ever trip with the cast to Comic-Con in San Diego:

“I’m a pretty quiet person. I think it’s going to be a lot of people. But I think it will be fun. I’m glad to be able to go with the cast. I’m friendly with the people that I work with, which is nice, so we get to do it together.”

The Big Bang Theory actress is on to something when she calls out the ubiquity of Slave Leia costumes at Star Wars conventions. Cosplayers and Comic-Con attendees, listen up: There are plenty more ladies with perfectly hewn braids to imitate.

If you pack an extra tanktop and pair of shorts, you can turn your Slave Leia getup into a Lara Croft costume — and you can keep the braid. Star Wars geeks are most persnickety about hairstyling, of course.

At the inaugural Critics Choice TV Awards, the critics were mad about Mad Men, which won for best drama, as well as acting honors for Christina Hendricks and Jon Hamm.

Creator Matt Weiner accepted by saying he thinks of himself as a TV critic at the event, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“Like a TV critic, I’m a champion of the underdog,” he said.

Accepting best comedy for Modern Family, exec producer Steve Levitan said he was lucky to work with a great cast, great writers and a great network.

Danny DeVito accepted the icon award by saying It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has given him “a new lease on life.”

“People might think TV critics are mindless parasites,” said DeVito, “but this proves you are not.”

The show was hosted by Cat Deeley and airs Thursday on ReelzChannel. It streamed live on VH1.

Congratulations to the cast of The Big Bang Theory for their Critcs’ Choice Television Award nominations! The show picked up nods for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Jim Parsons). The awards will be handed out June 20 in Los Angeles. Congrats!

During the interview (which you can see in full to the below), Conan opened up the conversation by doing his whole “awkward-flirting” bit (which was reciprocated by Cuoco), and then the two of them ended up talking about “Jackass moments” largely due to the fact that Johnny Knoxville from the MTV franchise was also present as a guest. We didn’t really end up learning much about “Big Bang” during the interview, but we did at least find out that Kaley was in a jetski incident at one point with her co-star (and then-boyfriend) Johnny Galecki, and that she has nearly had a car accident driving behind Conan at least three times (as they both work on the same studio lot every day).

This morning I grabbed the chance to spend a few minutes on the phone with Mayim Bialik, who currently plays the role of Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory. We spoke as her children chattered in the background, a warm reminder of balanced priorities.

Were you a fan of The Big Bang Theory before you took the role of Amy Farrah Fowler?
No, I’d actually never seen the show before I went in to audition. I’d heard I’d been mentioned during the earlier seasons, because of my degree in neuroscience, but I have 2 little kids so TV time is scarce. I actually thought it was some kind of game show. Johnny Galecki and I had the same agent as kids, so I talked with him about it. All I really knew was the character needed to be a “female version of Jim Parsons,” so I Googled him and Sheldon and went from there. I really love “Chuck’s (Lorre) sensibility” and the “simplicity of the show.” Their writers are so incredible and pay such attention to detail. I’ve spent so much time in the sitcom world, it’s kind of hard to bring something new, but they really do a nice job.

What have you missed about being part of a sitcom?
The regular paycheck? A regular schedule is nice, and since I got my degree and had my children, I’ve really been living in another universe. I didn’t expect to be part of another sitcom, but I’m grateful for the opportunity.
Do you feel like you’re competing with Jim’s portrayal of Sheldon since your characters are so similar? Are you always trying to one-up each other?
Well, we serve different purposes, and I think it’s interesting watching a female try to operate within the same framework that Sheldon does. The female socialization incorporates more playfulness. We don’t really compete, but I do really enjoy the scenes where Jim and I get to banter – I look to him for pacing and delivery.
When the show began, it was largely about the four guys. What do you think the expansion of the cast to include 4 regular female characters has added to the show?
It’s another element of fun. It started out all about these guys – like so many things in Hollywood – and Penny was really out of her element. It’s different now with the female dynamic, but I think the relationships don’t look like others that have come before.
Last summer at Comic-Con, Kaley (Cuoco) admitted to being the “nerdiest” cast member. Where do you fall on the nerd scale – like, were you into comic books and super hero stuff as a child?
Definitely. I’ve always been into science fiction, and my husband and I both read a lot of graphic novels – what comic book nerds read when they grow up. Being a scientist, I see the “beauty in every atom and molecule of the world.” My kids recently dressed up as Batman and Spider-Man, and joined my husband and I as Robin and Wonder Woman, so yes. We’re into it.
Is there anything you can tell us about how Amy and Sheldon’s relationship might evolve?
There is going to be more of the same, but we get to see new aspects that will shock them both along with the audience. We just finished filming an episode where Sheldon joins the girls for “girls’ night” and it’s one of my favorites so far.
Will Amy spend more time with Sheldon’s mother?
Not that I know of, not now. But maybe.
I caught your episode of What Not To Wear recently, which is funny considering Amy Farrah Fowler is not exactly concerned with fashion. Are you sticking to that shopping/makeover regimen?
I thought it was funny, I taped that show before I even knew about Big Bang Theory and now I’m playing a character who dresses really conservatively. For professional appearances I’m sticking to their advice…

Is there anything you can tease about the remainder of the season?
Well…the tension between Priya and Penny continues to build. In the episode we’re taping today, Bernadette and Amy assist Penny with her attack on Priya.
I, for one, am happy to hear the girls will be getting more and more scenes in the future. They bring such wonderful comedy and complex relationships to the show.

The London-born and New Delhi-raised actor spent some time talking to Page 2 about his thoughts on the ICC Cricket World Cup, what every American should know about the sport, and which fellow “Big Bang” cast member would make the best cricketer.

You have English and Indian roots? Who’s your team?

“I’m an Indian fan. I only lived in London for three or four years. I predominantly started watching cricket growing up in India.”

Talk about your experiences playing cricket.

“I grew up like any other kid in Delhi playing cricket since I was 5 or 6 years old. I went to cricket camp in the summer. I played a lot of cricket for fun and at school. I was never really great, but I was a huge cricket fanatic. For me, getting on the field was a dream. Anytime we had a moment, we’d go into our driveway with a tennis ball and cricket bat and play.”

What’s your favorite World Cup memory?

“It’s my favorite and it’s my worst moment because we lost. It’s when we played Australia in the final in 2003. I remember because I was in Portland, Ore., studying in college at the time, and my brother had found out this one Indian restaurant was going to be showing the World Cup final. It was two hours away and I skipped school that day. It was 4:30 in the morning and they were serving samosas and chai. It was $45 to get into this restaurant. It was so expensive, but we paid. We stood up when the national anthem played. I was almost crying. This was our year, but they absolutely destroyed us.”

Next up: Aarti Mann returns as Raj’s sister Priya, who’ll now be dating Leonard after their previous one-night stand. “Raj is not going to be very happy about that,” says actor Kunal Nayyar. “I forgave Leonard [after they first hooked up] because she didn’t want [something serious], but now…”

In other romantic developments, Bernadette finally lays down the law with Howard (Simon Helberg) and demands that he choose between her and his overbearing mom. “That’s a big moment to see this guy who’s a mama’s boy have to make that decision,” says Simon. “I bet he’s going to mess it up.”

And is Jim Parsons (Sheldon) jealous that Leonard’s getting so much lovin’?  Hardly. “I got Christine Baranski,” says the new Golden Globe winner, “so it’s only fair to share the hot women kisses.”

Here’s what Kunal Nayyar had to say about his alter-ego, Raj: “Raj’s sister Priya is coming back to town in the next couple of weeks. There’s a big dance number. Last time (his sister and Leonard) just slept together and Raj was fine because she didn’t want anything long term or serious. But this time they start to date and it may come to blows. It is going to be very hard for Raj to swallow if they become an item. I hope she’s back for awhile. She’s a great actress.”

Meanwhile, Kaley Cuoco dished that Penny’s still harbors feelings for Leonard:  “I just heard that Raj’s sister is coming back with hopes of rekindling something with Leonard. I think that might kick up something with Penny. I think she is going to get a little jealous. She doesn’t realize she is in love with him until people take his attention away from her. We always want what we can’t have. That’s so Penny. Jessica Walter is shooting our show this week and it is hilarious. I will say there is some hot stuff going on there. Cougar hotness this week.”

Wait a minute, Jessica Walter? Give us more, executive producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady!

“Jessica Walter’s playing a wealthy donor at the university and the guys have to go and woo her and slow dance with her to get money for the university,” Lorre began. “Even Sheldon.”

“And maybe Leonard is called upon to do a little more than dance,” added Prady.

“It’s a little dirty and nasty and hopefully hilarious,” continued Lorre.

Like Cuoco said, Prady confirmed that Leonard and Penny will continue down a bumpy road. “I always think they are perfect but they just met each other at the wrong time in their lives,” he said. “We sort of pay attention to what the fans are saying and go from there. They aren’t through but they aren’t exactly ready to come together either.”

The show, which stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Kaley Cuoco, has always been a hit with geeks for its witty, scientifically accurate dialog, and frequent references to pop culture. However, the last season has seen a huge ratings boost coupled with more media attention — making a long-term renewal a no-brainer for the studio.

It also helps that 2010 was a particularly good year for Parsons, whose portrayal of Sheldon Cooper won not only a 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series but also a Golden Globe win this year for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical.

If you’ve neglected to watch Big Bang Theory in the past, I completely understand as I’ve never been a fan of sitcoms and even less a fan of any program that features a laugh-track. Yet, much like I casually gave The IT Crowd a try, I am now hooked on Big Bang Theory.

Anyone else extremely excited to hear the news that this show will be around well into the future?

The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar has revealed that Aarti Mann will return as Raj’s sister Priya in a future episode.

The character appeared earlier in the show’s fourth season and shared a one-night stand with Leonard (Johnny Galecki).

Nayyar told Entertainment Weekly: “Last time [his sister and Leonard] just slept together and Raj was fine because she didn’t want anything long-term or serious. But this time they start to date and it may come to blows.”

He added: “I hope [Aarti] is back for awhile. She’s a great actress.”

His co-star Kaley Cuoco also confirmed that Priya’s reappearance could stir up Penny’s old feelings for Leonard.

“I think that might kick up something with Penny,” she suggested. “I think she is going to get a little jealous. She doesn’t realise she is in love with him until people take his attention away from her.”

Cuoco previously admitted that she was unsure about Penny and Leonard’s future as a couple.

The Big Bang Theory airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS.

“Glee” – As of this writing the Best Comedy winner has not been announced, but the students from McKinley high can now add another success story to the long line — Jane Lynch. The actress walked away with a trophy for her supporting role as Sue Sylvester, giving her a Golden Globe for the first time.
“The Big C” – Laura Linney managed to defeat the “Glee” freight train in this category, and she took home a comedy acting award.
“The Big Bang Theory” – hats off for Jim Parsons, who won his first Golden Globe for his role as Sheldon Cooper on the program. He also has an Emmy in his possession.

Penny (Cuoco) dated the geeky scientist throughout the third season of the CBS sitcom, but the pair later broke up.

“It’s really back and forth,” she told E! Online. “I don’t think the writers know [what's going to happen]. It’s all a big question, like, should it be, shouldn’t be? [We are] pulled in every direction.”

Discussing Penny and Leonard’s break-up in September, Cuoco’s co-star Galecki suggested: “I’m hard-pressed to believe that’ll be the end of it.”

The Big Bang Theory star has a great role, too. Turns out he’ll be playing none other than… himself. Well except that it’s supposed to be a tougher version of himself. I’m really hoping that means he’ll be able to throw some mega star-like hissy fits and tantrums, complete with brawls and throwing cell phones at people.

In the episode, Eric (Kevin Connolly) and Scott (Hawaii Five-O’s Scott Caan) reportedly take on Johnny as a client and word is that he, like all bad boys do, might just be trying to make some moves on other guy’s chicks. Looks like he’s going to be trying some moves on Eric’s lady, Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui) which I’m sure will not go over well with our favorite little Irishman. I think Johnny better watch out, Eric may be little but he’s no wimp.

This last season (the show’s eighth) has been confirmed as the last and it looks like they’re not pulling out any stops when it comes to lining up some great guest stars. I can’t wait to see who they announce next.

First, we found out how difficult it was exactly for Helberg to shoot the now-infamous “kissing” scene with co-star Kunal Nayyar (Raj) earlier this season:

“We did have to rehearse that and also had to shoot it several times. We’re comfortable with each other … maybe not that comfortable, but certainly at this point we’ve experienced more than we ever hoped for (laughs). But, yeah, anything for a laugh.”

Helberg also touched upon his character’s mother, someone who has always been a presence on the show without actually appearing on screen. Here is what he had to say about the challenge of shooting some of these conversations:

“When I’m in a room and she’s off camera I can’t see her, but it’s really fun to do. I definitely can tap in to my frustration with parents and I feel like I’ve heard that voice in my head at least so I have fun doing those scenes. It’s definitely interesting doing them, though, when it’s just the room and me and she’s off screen.

“The interesting part of it is that there’s no one for them to cut to so even if she’s ranting, the camera is only on me. It’s a good exercise in making sure that you’re obviously listening and giving enough kinds of reactions so that it’s interesting for people to watch your face for an entire scene. That’s the only thing I’ve noticed in those scenes when it’s just me in a room and she is yelling. Mother is played by Carol Ann Susi, a character actress, who enjoys doing the show but doesn’t want to be on camera. She just loves coming in and standing back there and screaming.”

Gorgeous and stunning: Kaley Cuoco hit the red carpet of the 2011 People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles two nights ago. Cuoco chose a floor length strapless goddess dress in snow white for the night and was stunning.

Simon recently took the time out of his busy shooting schedule to talk with MediaBlvd Magazine about his new independent film, “I am I.”  Simon’s film is being produced by the rising film & arts website, www.KickStarter.com.   Kickstarter features the revolutionary concept of allowing the online community to finance, produce, and become more involved with films, rather than going the often destructive route of big studios and production companies. 

MediaBlvd> Now you’re currently in the midst of making an independent film, “I am I,” in association with the crowd-funding website, www.Kickstarter.com.  Tell us a little bit about how Kickstarter works and why you’ve chosen to implement this site to help fund your film.

Simon>  Ah, well it basically started as a launching pad for things having to do with the arts.  It has films, bands, it also has fashion – and I think we’re kind of on the brink of it really exploding.  It’s really unbelievable – you get to try out your product, and get to skip the “corporate element,” and seeing if there’s actually an audience for your project, again whether it’s a piece of jewelry or a film.  In terms of independence films, it’s really in terms of getting  back to the original concept of it, which is that it’s a real community effort.  We’re basically making the fans the studio – we’re saying if is this something you want to see, and if it is – become a part of it with us.  Invest in it emotionally, and donate to the project, so [that we] can get it made with your help. 

[With Kickstarter] we’re really connecting with a fanbase, and basically making the fans producers on the movie.  So, yeah, it’s a pretty incredible website, it really feels like we’re on the cusp of something revolutionary in the terms of making art and distributing it out into the world. 

MediaBlvd>  Excellent!  I’ve heard a lot about directors who’ve implemented Kickstarter successfully in the past.

Simon>  Yeah, definitely!

MediaBlvd>  Let’s talk about your film – “I am I.”  I believe you’re working on it with your wife?  Tell us a little bit about it.

Simon>  Well, yeah, my wife wrote it and [she’s] directing it, and she’s going to star in it.  I’m going to be in it as well as actor Jason Ritter.  The story is basically a girl who never knew her father, [and she] runs into him at her mother’s funeral.  He is suffering from a form of retrograde amnesia, it’s an actual disorder called Korsakoff’s Syndrome – he thinks he’s 30 years old perpetually – that’s where he stopped remembering.  He sees his daughter and he mistakes her for her mother as a young woman, and she kind of puts it together that he’s the dad that she never knew.   And she decides to allow him to love her, playing along as she is her own mother and allowing her father to win her love, and that’s how she gets to know him, basically through this sort of twisted love story.  It’s dark and funny and heartbreaking.  It’s an unbelievable script.
[As for] Kickstarter, we’ve raised, last I checked, around 86,000 dollars – we’re trying to get to 100,000 dollars, and we have close to 800 backers.  We have until Saturday morning [to reach 100,000], and if we don’t reach our goal by Saturday morning, the money goes back to the donators.  So it’s very scam-proof – you can’t just take a little money and make a crappy movie, you have to get all of it.  To entice people, we have incentives.  You can see all this by going to www.IamIthefilm.com, and it’ll put you on the Kickstarter link.  [Incentives:]  If you donate 10 dollars, I’ll do a ringtone for you, and it’ll be my voice saying something either irritating or whatever.  If you donate 100 dollars, you become an actual associate producer on the movie, and you’ll get a credit at the end.  At 1,000 dollars, you get a walk-on role.  At 10,000 dollars, we’ll come to your house and bother you, knock on your door, and scream it for you. [laughs]. 

There’s all these different incentives – we’ve had people we don’t know give 10,000, we’ve had people give a dollar.  It’s just been incredible that people are responding to this story, and I think people are responding to this video we made that’s sort of this exclusive little video just for Kickstarter.  It’s like a 4 ½ minute video done in one shot, and it sort of explains the concept of how the movie came to be, how we’re going to make it, and it gives the vibe of the movie.  You get to see me with my shirt off in the bath tub [laughs].  It’s a really fun thing, and we’ve sort of pulled out the stops and done this in a really grassroots, indie kind of way.

The Big Bang Theory at Comic-Con
The Big Bang Theory is to appear at Comic-Con for the third time this year. The show’s cast and creators chaired a panel discussion on the show at the 2008 and 2009 events. Comic-Con 2010 will take place in San Diego from July 22nd to July 25th.

Three years later some scientists still say that although the series, “The Big Bang Theory” (Monday nights on CBS), is funny and scientifically accurate, they are put off by it. “Makes me cringe,” said Bruce Margon, an astrophysicist at the University of California, Santa Cruz, explaining, “The terrible stereotyping of the nerd plus the dumb blond are steps backwards for science literacy.”

Lisa Randall, a Harvard particle theorist who has visited the show’s set twice and appeared as an uncredited extra in one scene said, “I do think the writers are genuinely clever.” Lawrence Krauss, a cosmologist at Arizona State, and author of “The Physics of Star Trek,” said he had changed his initial dire opinion about the program. “First, because it is funny, and continues to be,” he said. “Second, because the characters have developed softer edges, and one of them has the girl!”

The point of the show, Mr. Prady said, is to tell small stories. “We are not doing ‘Lost,’ we’re not doing a complex novel for TV,” he said. “We follow the characters, and let them tell us what they’re going to do next. We’re telling stories about outsiders. We all feel like outsiders. Can you find love? Penny pulls Leonard to the outside world; Sheldon pulls him back.” Mr. Lorre said that the whole “challenge and joy” of a series like this is character development. “Maybe at the end of the day this will inspire some kids to go into physics,” he added, “just like ‘Cheers’ inspired countless young people to go into bars.”

CultureMap: Tell me about your time at Infernal Bridegroom Productions. What did you learn from the experience?
Jim Parsons: The experience was very life-encompassing … it really took over, and I threw myself into for a period of time. I went to undergrad at the University of Houston and graduate school at the University of San Diego, and the further I get away from those days the more I feel that my Infernal Bridegroom experience was on par with my traditional education in getting me where I am.

It gave me a chance to do a type of play that I wasn’t exposed to at university, like Beckett and Brecht. Both of my university experiences were pretty straight and narrow, with plays in spaces that were very typical, as opposed to Infernal Bridegroom performing all over the map. More often then not we were in a warehouse or parking lot, whatever we could create a show in.

There were a lot of important lessons that I learned, including the ability to perform under any circumstances. You can only learn it by getting the chance to do it, to perform in whatever room, in front of whatever audience that you have. It builds confidence that’s born of literal fact that you have done that. It’s harder to throw me as an actor than it would be had I not had that experience.

CM: Is it weird to be coming back as a special guest and honoree for the same people you started out with?
JP: It’s a little odd, but at the same time, if I can help bring attention to not just a theater group, but a group of people who have been important to my life and my growth as an actor, if I can bring attention financially, it is so my pleasure to try.

This has been for so long now such worthy work, both back when we were together and what they still do. It’s a crucial part of a cultural theme in Houston. It fills a void, I got to work and people got to see things they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to see.

“Jim Parsons is a singularly gifted comedic talent who provides laugh-out-loud entertainment every Monday night on CBS,” said NAB Television Board Chairman Paul Karpowicz, president of Meredith Corporation Broadcast Group. “His breakthrough performance has helped revitalize the sitcom genre, and NAB is proud to recognize him during this year’s NAB Show.”

Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki insists he won’t be making any diva-like demands when he appears at Australia’s top TV awards next month.

In fact the star, who plays geeky Leonard Hofstadter in the hit show, says all he wants on his rider at the Logie Awards is a Jamba Juice drink.

The 34-year-old told Australia’s TV Week magazine: “All I ask is for a Jamba Juice. I pay for it with my own money. I always do that. I just can’t go and get it because I’m in makeup.”

Q: What about that show appealed to you?
A: It was a Chuck Lorre pilot, and it was a multi-camera show, which is very close to theater – the world that I knew – and it was really funny. I didn’t look at it and say, oh this is a perfect geek comedy, I just read it and said, Oh my God, this is brilliant writing, this is so funny.

Q: How would you describe your character, Raj?
A: Not only does he have trouble mingling with the outside world, he also has trouble mingling because he’s a foreigner… it’s a double-edged sword he’s fighting. He feels very comfortable with these guys because they’re everything to him, you know what I mean? He’s so dependent, especially on Howard, but these guys are his family and his life, because he feels completely at ease with them.

And of course, you know, he suffers from selective mutism, which comes from his pathological shyness, and he can only talk to women when he drinks.

Inside Raj lives a beast, like a rapper or like a player or like a mogul, because every time he drinks he becomes this smooth, suave, picking-up-girls kind of guy. So I think there’s a beast that lives inside him.

Q: To what extent do you think you’re like Raj?
A: I think if Raj could let the beast out, that would be Kunal. I think Kunal is the beast that’s living inside Raj. Not that I am a mogul or a player or anything, but in essence I have the freedoms that he doesn’t.Kunal is very much like Raj because I also sometimes I have to fight that double-edged sword, fitting in socially as well as internationally. And I think Raj is kind of mischievous and I’m pretty mischievous. Things excite Raj very easily, he gets excited very easily when it comes to video games or women or anything, and I’m sort of like that too.

So now that we’ve seen Wil Wheaton a second time on Big Bang Theory, might a third appearance be in store? Could he be a recurring nemesis for Sheldon? “I would think so. Nothing’s resolved,” Parsons remarked. “And I don’t think Sheldon ever gets to win in that situation. Not to spoil anything, but Sheldon wins a lot of the time, so it’s nice to have a good person come on and always get the best of him, because the rest of them don’t always. They try, [but] he’s too smart.”

Of course as much as Sheldon hates one Star Trek alumni in Wil Wheaton, he has absolute adoration for another, Leonard Nimoy. So might we ever see Nimoy on The Big Bang Theory? Said Parsons, “I’m sure they’re trying. What’s funny is that he was kept so far away from Stan Lee, in jail and everything, and I’ve wondered if we ever got Leonard Nimoy on… I just feel like it would be the briefest of encounters. I feel like, once again, I wouldn’t get to see Leonard Nimoy more than two seconds, in the episode. Sheldon would flip though, he would explode.”

Galecki had just been asked if the success of The Big Bang Theory, which has taken off ratings-wise in its third season, had inspired any “diva” behaviour among the actors. “Kunal didn’t used to sit like that last year — now look at him,” an amused Galecki said. Everyone turned to see Nayyar slouched in a chair, legs protruding, with an expression of ironic detachment. “What’s up, rock star?” Galecki bellowed, as both groups laughed and Nayyar meekly protested that he always sits that way. “You are very cool over there, like a member of Oasis or something.” Certainly, if anyone in TV comedy has “rock star status” these days, it’s the cast of The Big Bang Theory.

[...] Leonard and Sheldon share an apartment, and living across the hall is the fetching Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco. As the series has progressed, and against all odds, Leonard and Penny have embarked upon a romantic relationship. “I guess Kaley and I were pretty surprised, but Chuck (Lorre, co-creator and co-executive producer) explained it in a way that makes perfect sense — and not just because he’s my boss,” Galecki said. “Dangling that romantic carrot over an audience’s head has been done many, many times, and it has been done very, very well many times. But these characters come from such different worlds, I don’t think they can begin to figure anything out without taking a plunge. I’m talking like I know what makes a healthy and happy relationship. I don’t know. But let them roll the dice and see what happens first, and maybe we can keep it going for a bit.”

[...] “I hope it’s a little bit easier or else I didn’t learn a damn thing,” Galecki said. “Kaley (who had a role in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules) and I both experienced a little bit of it before, in our previous work. But it is amazing how everybody is reacting to this in such positive, positive way.”The previously unknown Parsons has been the breakout star of The Big Bang Theory with his portrayal of über-nerd Sheldon. Listening to Galecki, it sounds as if one of the things he is most gratified about is what the show has done for Parsons, and vice versa. “Jim’s story, to me, is so incredible,” Galecki said. “Having met him four years ago when he was living in Brooklyn and pounding the pavement for Dimetapp commercials, he is talented, but he works so, so hard. Every struggling actor should read his story, or pay attention to his story, because it’s hopeful and not just because he didn’t win the lotto. He worked hard and paid his dues for a long, long time. And still, with the attention he gets, he is such a great guy and it still is all about the work for him, for all of us — except the rock-star component.”

Mayim Bialik has been tapped for a recurring role on the hit CBS comedy series “The Big Bang Theory.”

She will play a potential girlfriend for Sheldon (Jim Parsons) — a female version of him, a nerdy brain that he meets on eHarmony.

Bialik will appear in the season finale May 24.

Why does Raj always wear so many layers? -Haverly
Kunal Nayyar: I think the discussion that happened with the costume designer is that because he’s in a new country and because he’s a genius at such a young age, the layers act as protection. It’s like a shield for him. I also bet Raj thinks it looks good.

Will he ever get up the courage to talk to a woman? – PopWrap
Kunal: I doubt it. I think they’ll try lots of experimental drugs, so like in season eight he’ll be a junkie! [laughs] But no, I don’t think we’ll ever see him get over it, which I always wondered about in the beginning. “How will we continue to do this,” but the writers are amazing.

Do you think Raj and Howard are the 2010 Bert and Ernie? – Vlad
Kunal: There’s definitely a bromance there. That’s what is so lovely about this season you’re seeing that they can’t live without each other. In the next few episodes you’ll really see how dependent Leonard is on Sheldon and Penny. But I think Raj and Howard are endearing. I also love that Raj is becoming more needy and effeminate, like the wife in their relationship.

Co-creator Chuck Lorre said that Sheldon doesn’t qualify as gay or straight — what about Raj, does he want a girlfriend? – Linda
Kunal: I think with Sheldon, that’s obviously the case — he lives in a very specific world. As they all do, but unlike Sheldon, the guys are horny as hell! Like any single man. All Raj wants to do is pick up girls. Howard too. And you see that Leonard just wants to be with Penny. Despite growing up in labs, these guys are still driven by their lions — but it’s just difficult to carry off.

What kind of girl would Raj be able to date? – Jackie
Kunal: I thought about dating a deaf women — but that’s a hard joke to pull off sensitively. I don’t know if he’ll actually ever find love. Plus, I wonder, what’s funnier than seeing these guys fail? That’s the essence of comedy. I think they’ll succeed at being friends, but not with women.

“Betty White’s [on my guest star wish list],” Parsons said. “She’s been everywhere though lately. I don’t even know if we could get her between her Snickers commercials and ‘SNL’… she’d be a wonderful mee-ma.”

As fans of “BBT” know, Sheldon’s beloved mee-ma is his grandmother and, though she’s been mentioned many a time on the series, she’s yet to be seen.

“I’m shooting a little word-of-the-day segment on Sesame Street, so I’m taking my four-year-old nephew,” said Parsons, who plays Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. “The scene I’m doing (on Sesame Street), they’re creating a character just for that scene. But I said, ‘Can I bring my four-year-old nephew?’ and they said, ‘Sure, and we’ll bring Elmo and Abby Cadabby to meet him.’ He may have a conniption fit, though. It’s one of those moments where I think, ‘He’s going to love it, but he may lapse back or something.’ It’s weird.”

[...] But as far as the advantages of fame go, Parsons said this Sesame Street thing will be tough to beat, no matter how long The Big Bang Theory lasts. “It’s one of my favourite things I’ve even gotten to do because of any sort of career in Hollywood or whatever,” Parsons said. “When I heard that I was doing this and I could bring my nephew, I said, ‘I could retire.’ Other than my name showing up in the New York Times crossword, what other goals do I have? I’m taking my nephew to meet Elmo!”

On set this week, four of the five main cast members — each in their own separate interviews — named Kudrow as the perfect candidate to portray Penny’s mom.

“Every week we hear something whacked about Penny’s family,” Kaley Cuoco said of her character. “She has this weird family and I’ve been waiting for the episode [in which we meet them]. My ideal mother would be Lisa Kudrow. I just think she should play my mother. I have this idea that she had me when she was really young.”

IGN: I love the show and I watch every week. And I keep thinking about all the people who said the sitcom was dead. You guys seem to have completely revived it. What do you think it is about the show that turned an entire show style on its ear?

Jim Parsons: Well for one thing, I don’t think there is any reinventing of a wheel going on here. You know what I mean? I don’t think anybody’s trying to do anything around here that is in any way changing the old school of thought with the traditional multi-camera sitcom. And that may be one of the biggest things we have going in our favor. We’re trying to simply execute as well as possible, a format that’s been around. That’s been related to live theater.

If there is one breakthrough TV role over the past year or so, it is Jim Parsons’ turn as physicist Sheldon Cooper in the hit CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” Brilliant, supercilious, socially clueless, Cooper is alternately hysterical and horrifying. And Parsons’ Emmy-nominated performance is so spot-on, it seems as if the character and the actor are the same person.

But unlike Sheldon, the tall (6-foot-2), 36-year-old Parsons, a Houston native, is actually a sports fan who does not speak Klingon. Lewis Beale discussed the role and other matters with Parsons while he was on a production break.
